It’s About Time: Together We Can End AIDS

Tomorrow, people around the world will pause to mark the 27th annual World AIDS Day with a renewed commitment to ending the epidemic.

In New York City, five diverse leaders of the fight against AIDS will gather to hold an engaging conversation about what it will take to defeat HIV/AIDS in our lifetimes.

HIV has infected 80 million people and has killed half of them; another 1.2 million people die and 1.5 million people contract HIV each year. Two thirds of HIV infections and AIDS deaths are in sub-Saharan Africa among many of the world’s most vulnerable people. But even in the United States, more than 1.2 million people live with HIV – and almost 13 percent of them don’t know it.

Please join panellists Dr. Mary T. Bassett, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Dr. Mark Feinberg, President & CEO of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI); Charles King, President & CEO of Housing Works and Co-Chair of Governor Cuomo’s New York State End-AIDS Task Force; Kelsey Louie, CEO of Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and Member of Governor Cuomo’s New York State End-AIDS Task Force; and Chase Strangio, Staff Attorney of the ACLU LGBT & AIDS Project. Mo Rocca, correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning, will moderate a discussion covering the latest advances in HIV prevention, and the opportunities we can seize and challenges we can overcome by working together.
